Thank you! It was a 7 year Odyssey! Very grateful for the entire experience and excited to be sharing lots of lessons learned here that hopefully others find helpful : )
Some great, tactical advice here! The Recommendation feature has been a game-changer for a lot of us. Having it user-driven instead of via algorithm was brilliant. Hard to find that sort of built-in social proof elsewhere.
Hey, Scott. Congrats on being the first Substack publication I've read since just now signing up! I'll definitely keep a keen eye on your advice here in this post and look forward to seeing more of your advice for Substack in the future.
Thank you, Scott! This information is so useful. I often click on profiles in subscriber notification emails to see who is reading and if they have their own Substack I can follow, but I haven't systemized this in any way. It makes sense to be more conscious about it in the future before deleting those notifications.
The bit about publication thumbnails and images is also really useful. As a writer I often forget the visual component, even though I know rationally that most of us respond strongly to images.
Very informative Scott. I have been slowly working on my publication growth by doing similar things like you wrote about. Thank you for reaching out to me.
Scott, congratulations on your company's sale to Salesforce, that's quite a feat.
